She's 20 though and has been doing Hepts since about 2009. The question is: Did she use this 3-4 step run-up because of a bad knee or does she normally use that run-up. Having jumped 180 with 3 steps is quite an athletic feat in itself, especially with that board-stiff, straight knee clearance technique.

Her High jump is certainly a work in progress. Hard to believe she's not ready for 5 steps at least.

The majority of heptathletes take around 8 to 10 steps in the HJ, with the better ones taking 12+ (Braun, Kluft, JJK etc all did) Moskalets used to take about 14 strides!

Drechsler also did a 4 step approach and jumped 1.88i and 1.84 and like Schippers, great jumping from such a slow, shot run-up. With her best years ahead of her, Schippers should be able to increase her run-up and get many more points here, which of course she needs. If she can consistently get 1.80 that would be great; that's definitely the bottom line for the best heptathletes.

EC 2012 Dafne will only take 200m individually and relay for the first time this year,the only 200m she ran 22.73s/+1.9 is in hep in Gotizs,in Europe the fastest entry was Oyepitan/22.71s this year and Pyatachenko,the new comer but still to watch,then Ryemyen/22.72s.Of course,not forgetting Soumaré of FRA/22.74s in NC /defending champion who improved her pb from 23.02s to 22.32s in 2010 EC and Stuy of UKR who surprised into WC final last year.

I think Daphne is quite an exceptional athlete - bordering world class in both the 200m and the heptathlon, that has otherwise gone unnoticed here, if not for nianchengyu.

Dafne did not well today with a 13.63s/-0.4 and 13.54m SP,comparing to her compariot Nadine BROERSEN who only has 25.64s 200m pb,12.99s 100m ran 13.71s pb 100mH and already improve her LJ pb from 6.06m indoor pb to 6.19m in 1st round.

Schippers will ahve to leap frog over Laura Ikauniece and Kristina Savitskaya who are a similar age but slightly ahead of her. Of course developement isn't exactly a straight and linear process.

Yeah,successive improvement for years, dafne possibly have not big leaps every year,but steadily enhance will help her get podium and more things.More importantly,her knee health and combine abilities of different event together.In london dafne did show her training form in HJ and was expected over 6423p Ducth record,but fall apart in second day for bad LJ and JV. Ikauniece showed steadily improvement in all three meetings this year,but not so well JV in Gotizs,terrific six pbs outdoors but bad at throwing event,in london she put them together.Her figure is quite slim, not very ideal traditional figure for hep,but equilibrium in six events except for SP,comparing to schippers,perfect figure for heptathlon,world-class sprint ability but do bad in JV,almost 12m shorter than Ikauniece and lose 230p just one event,plus HJ with knee problem.I think another event not do well for schippers is 100mH,Schwarzkopf is a 7.89s in 60m and 24.72s in 200m but ran 13.26s in 100mH, BROERSEN,her former teamate,exactly do very well in schippers weak part JV and HJ, very bad at sprint,7.95s 60m and 25.13s 200m but still a 13.64s hurdler,what a big difference the skill is.
Sara Gambetta/19y,who got injury this year, she has similar height of Ikauniece but much heavier than Ikauniece.Gambetta definately the strongest heptathlete I saw ever,15.38m SP this year in terms of a teenager,her problem is hurdle skill and 800m endurance.
Savitskaya make big leaps this year,but I doubt about her consistency plus so many RUS involving into drug,hoping she will the next one.
