Thanks a lot,but what do you think about her run-up,can she make a better use to her speed?

Of course she can. But I suppose she and her coach choose for a careful approach first. She is young you know.

She's 20 though and has been doing Hepts since about 2009. The question is: Did she use this 3-4 step run-up because of a bad knee or does she normally use that run-up. Having jumped 180 with 3 steps is quite an athletic feat in itself, especially with that board-stiff, straight knee clearance technique.

Her High jump is certainly a work in progress. Hard to believe she's not ready for 5 steps at least.

The majority of heptathletes take around 8 to 10 steps in the HJ, with the better ones taking 12+ (Braun, Kluft, JJK etc all did) Moskalets used to take about 14 strides!

Drechsler also did a 4 step approach and jumped 1.88i and 1.84 and like Schippers, great jumping from such a slow, shot run-up. With her best years ahead of her, Schippers should be able to increase her run-up and get many more points here, which of course she needs. If she can consistently get 1.80 that would be great; that's definitely the bottom line for the best heptathletes.

I have not seen the Götzis jumps. Did she use only 4 steps? The last time I saw her live she did a normal 8 steps.
Because of her knee progress will be slow, they cannot give the discipline enough attention. Another problem is that Dafne is not particularly fast in learning movements. The good thing therein is that she will progress in the future for a long time! Until she has mastered all techniques to a good heptathlete level.
For historical interest, this is Dafne's pb of 1.55 long ago, june 4 2006, that is shortly before her 14th birthdate.

Four Dutch all-rounder settled in Austria last week qualified for the Olympics. Eelco Sintnicolaas, Ingmar Vos, Dafne SCHIPPERS and Nadine Broersen Saturday/9/6/2012 in Leiden in action will come at various parts. Eelco Sintnicolaas will come true on his specialty pole vault, a component that he almost won last year! Fellow decathlete Ingmar Vos will also run the 100 meters next to the pole vault. Dafne SCHIPPERS binds the battle with the fastest women in the 100 m and will in addition, shot put. Nadine Broersen takes the 100 metres hurdles and the long jump for her account. In a manner of dress for her Olympic limit attempt in Ratingen Remona will Lead French in hordes and long jump.

dafne schippers unsures to do 200m and relay after hep in Ol

Postby nianchengyu » Tue Jun 12, 2012 5:18 am

Dafne SCHIPPERS feels confused to do 200m and relay in london after hep,she should feel hard not only to train for hep but also participate in realy tranning,Dutch team already ran 42.90s NR without her there is a report:
Dafne SCHIPPERS was with the fastest sprinter 11,36 (+ 1.2) at the 100 m and they did also that part of the European Championships. The heptathlete says not yet recovering from the contest in Götzis. ' Sometimes it seems very good to go, but suddenly, I noticed That the energy on. now on the last thirty yards. I had to really work, "said the winner of the AA-Drink Talents Cup.
Through blood tests and other tests she wants to collect as much information as possible about her recovery ability to make the right choices for the Games. She begins the Olympic tournament with the heptathlon, but do not know whether they will make use of its right to subsequently also start at the 200 m and what her role can be in the relay team, which is likely places. Also for the choices she will still have to make, EK already she will certainly no all-around rotate.

EC 2012 Dafne will only take 200m individually and relay for the first time this year, the only 200m she ran 22.73s/+1.9 is in hep in Gotizs,in Europe the fastest entry was Oyepitan/22.71s this year and Pyatachenko, the new comer but still to watch, then Ryemyen/22.72s.Of course, not forgetting Soumaré of FRA/22.74s in NC /defending champion who improved her pb from 23.02s to 22.32s in 2010 EC and Stuy of UKR who surprised into WC final last year.

Lastest news about the choice between sprint and hep,she really love hep although hep may higher risk of injury, training only for sprint is boring, :
Henk Kraaijenhof did the earlier suggestion to choose the sprint. That would be wise, given the risk of injuries in the all-around. But boatmen remains with her big love, the all-around. ' Then but not wisely. I have surely proved that this year I have something to search on the all-around, even though I can still learn so much. That takes time. But that alternation I find precisely so much fun. And sprinting so well that goes precisely in the training by alternation. I train once a week on the sprint, nothing more. But I wonder if I will go if I specialiseer me harder. Additionally, you should do what you like, where you very very very good at feeling. '

SCHIPPERS as sprinter In Helsinki is present. In the 200 metres and the relay. ' Tricky, because the final of the 200 metres and the heats of the relay are on the same day, Friday. If I unplug the finale, I do not in that series. I'm not used to so much to sprinting on one day. It is such a specific tax. Jamile Samuel is perhaps also in that final, but she makes perhaps another choice because they tax that well used. "
22.73 seconds, walked with her during her seven camp in Götzis last month, fourth on the European rankings State SCHIPPERS of 2012. Short behind the number one, Elyzaveta Bryzgina from Ukraine (22.69). ' Oh, will though. Sometimes I hear, but I really don't go every day on those rankings look. You start with such a tournament yet all on zero. At my first EJK in Novi Sad I came as eighteenth the tournament inside and finished fourth ... '
They prefer focuses on himself, on her own body. For example, on her knee, although longer a concern. ' Going well, I've been getting better in the hand. ' Especially with the high jump can hinder the hair. In the all-around in Götzis, where they showed at the end of may form on the conservation for the Olympics and the heptathlon 200 metres, they got yet again burden. ' I jumped well, 1.73 meters. Yet shot it again, beng! I have tried it yet, but had too much pain on 1.76. Little weird though, I also regretted. I'm gone further with painkillers. "

On the way to Helsinki and the EK is mainly busy with dafne in London. ' The Olympics, surely that is the dream of every sportsman. Stand there, participate. Show you what I can. '
May not yet be expected more from her. ' When I competed in over a year ago I dared not hope on London Götzis. And when I got there, I was nominated was eighth. What is this now? At the end of that season I had even three Olympic nominations. I have made huge steps last year. From that moment was only my goal. ' London
This year she was in Götzis particularly pleased with her stable all-around. (' So I could still rely on my body. ') Else than last year in Tallinn, where she was European champion. ' That looked more like a roller coaster. The 800 meters was especially very heavy. I had eaten bad, it was 35 degrees and very stuffy. I can respond violently. After 500 meters I started to hyperventileren. Of the last 200 metres I can remember nothing about me. I finish, but I know nothing of bén there. '
It is really true, even in the world of Dafne SCHIPPERS is not always everything.

200 METERS - captains: `Entirely empty
Dafne captains had large problems in the turning of the 200 meters on the soaking job. `I made as much as ten wrong treads. I slid almost from my job and had on the straight piece on pace come. But then appeared that I was entirely. I have not got used three games behind each other run at this level. I hardly came on this after the finish to the staircase more, said them disappointed.

What a good race of Dafne in the semi-finals (22.70 without pushing to the finish line) and what a bad race in the final. The bends of the Helsinki track are disastrous, especially for 200 runners, see also the bad times of the men's final.

With 70 posts of the 110 posts on this thread posted by nianchengyu one can't help escape the impression that nianchengyu is stalking Schippers.

Unless nianchengyu is Schippers coach, parent, uncle, aunt, boyfriend or the like it seems that nianchengyu is unhealthily besotted with Schippers. She is a good athlete, but not that good. And running a twitter-like thread on what seems to be every movement Schippers makes comes across as sort of un-natural.

I think Daphne is quite an exceptional athlete - bordering world class in both the 200m and the heptathlon, that has otherwise gone unnoticed here, if not for nianchengyu.

There are many upcoming athletes who could be followed in an thread of this forum, but special of Dafne is the tension between sprints (which some say she should focus on) and heptathlon (which she herslef likes most).

I have to say, watching the women's 4x100 introductions last night, during what otherwise would have been a dull moment waiting for the start of the race, my ears and eyes perked up when I heard the announcer say Dafne Schippers.

Thank you for that nianchengyu . It was a lovely connection.

Schippers will ahve to leap frog over Laura Ikauniece and Kristina Savitskaya who are a similar age but slightly ahead of her. Of course developement isn't exactly a straight and linear process.

Yeah, successive improvement for years, dafne possibly have not big leaps every year, but steadily enhance will help her get podium and more things.More importantly, her knee health and combine abilities of different event together. In london dafne did show her training form in HJ and was expected over 6423p Ducth record, but fall apart in second day for bad LJ and JV. Ikauniece showed steadily improvement in all three meetings this year, but not so well JV in Gotizs, terrific six pbs outdoors but bad at throwing event,in london she put them together. Her figure is quite slim, not very ideal traditional figure for hep,but equilibrium in six events except for SP,comparing to schippers, perfect figure for heptathlon,world-class sprint ability but do bad in JV,almost 12m shorter than Ikauniece and lose 230p just one event, plus HJ with knee problem.I think another event not do well for schippers is 100mH,Schwarzkopf is a 7.89s in 60m and 24.72s in 200m but ran 13.26s in 100mH, BROERSEN,her former teamate, exactly do very well in schippers weak part JV and HJ, very bad at sprint,7.95s 60m and 25.13s 200m but still a 13.64s hurdler, what a big difference the skill is.
Sara Gambetta/19y,who got injury this year, she has similar height of Ikauniece but much heavier than Ikauniece.Gambetta definately the strongest heptathlete I saw ever,15.38m SP this year in terms of a teenager, her problem is hurdle skill and 800m endurance.
Savitskaya make big leaps this year, but I doubt about her consistency plus so many RUS involving into drug, hoping she will the next one.

Re: Take notice of dafne schippers-with IAAF featuring

Ikauniece and Savitskaya have had big improvements in form this season. But one has followed the usual pattern and the other hasn't.

Once a heptathlete gets into her 20's it's common to see an improvement of around 300 pts in one season. Ennis kind of did this when she went from 6469 in 2007 to 6731 in 2009 (of course she DNF in 2008). Her improvements since have been steady to get her to 6955. Ikauniece is more akin to this with her 351pt improvement from 2011 to 2012, over a couple of heptathlons. She will likely improve further over the coming years, with many ups and downs, but probably wont have a huge leap again (by huge I mean over 200pts in one season)

On the other hand, Savitskaya had an almost unreal leap from 5989 to 6681  that near-700pt improvement is unheard of at that level. Savitskaya will likely chip away at her PBs, but she could in theory throw the rulebook in the air and improvement by another 300 pts and I wouldn't put anything past those pesky Russians.

Schippers has not had that kind of improvement. Her advantage is that she has natural speed, but there's no point being fast unless you can learn to convert this into other events. She needs a consistent LJ. She also needs to master this speed in the hurdles (though she was onto a fast time in London if not for hitting the 9th) Her SP is nothing to worry about as that will improve with age but she needs to work on her javelin. With the right coaching she can gain many points in that event. Of the young guns she is one of the next ones that can make a big leap in one season. I expect KJT to as well, despite her big near-500pt improvement from 2011 to 2012, as she was still developing then.

On Gambetta, she is a bit of an enigma to me. She has the making of a good career but her hurdles are just the worst! She hasnt even broken 14.50 and she needs another 1 second off her time, she's losing 150+pts in this event.

She was the fifth fastest qualifier with a time of 7.15.
Pretty impressive considering she is a heptathlete.
