I have to say, watching the women's 4x100 introductions last night, during what otherwise would have been a dull moment waiting for the start of the race, my ears and eyes perked up when I heard the announcer say Dafne Schippers.

Thank you for that nianchengyu . It was a lovely connection.

Schippers will ahve to leap frog over Laura Ikauniece and Kristina Savitskaya who are a similar age but slightly ahead of her. Of course developement isn't exactly a straight and linear process.

Yeah, successive improvement for years, dafne possibly have not big leaps every year, but steadily enhance will help her get podium and more things.More importantly, her knee health and combine abilities of different event together. In london dafne did show her training form in HJ and was expected over 6423p Ducth record, but fall apart in second day for bad LJ and JV. Ikauniece showed steadily improvement in all three meetings this year, but not so well JV in Gotizs, terrific six pbs outdoors but bad at throwing event,in london she put them together. Her figure is quite slim, not very ideal traditional figure for hep,but equilibrium in six events except for SP,comparing to schippers, perfect figure for heptathlon,world-class sprint ability but do bad in JV,almost 12m shorter than Ikauniece and lose 230p just one event, plus HJ with knee problem.I think another event not do well for schippers is 100mH,Schwarzkopf is a 7.89s in 60m and 24.72s in 200m but ran 13.26s in 100mH, BROERSEN,her former teamate, exactly do very well in schippers weak part JV and HJ, very bad at sprint,7.95s 60m and 25.13s 200m but still a 13.64s hurdler, what a big difference the skill is.
Sara Gambetta/19y,who got injury this year, she has similar height of Ikauniece but much heavier than Ikauniece.Gambetta definately the strongest heptathlete I saw ever,15.38m SP this year in terms of a teenager, her problem is hurdle skill and 800m endurance.
Savitskaya make big leaps this year, but I doubt about her consistency plus so many RUS involving into drug, hoping she will the next one.

Ikauniece and Savitskaya have had big improvements in form this season. But one has followed the usual pattern and the other hasn't.

Once a heptathlete gets into her 20's it's common to see an improvement of around 300 pts in one season. Ennis kind of did this when she went from 6469 in 2007 to 6731 in 2009 (of course she DNF in 2008). Her improvements since have been steady to get her to 6955. Ikauniece is more akin to this with her 351pt improvement from 2011 to 2012, over a couple of heptathlons. She will likely improve further over the coming years, with many ups and downs, but probably wont have a huge leap again (by huge I mean over 200pts in one season)

On the other hand, Savitskaya had an almost unreal leap from 5989 to 6681  that near-700pt improvement is unheard of at that level. Savitskaya will likely chip away at her PBs, but she could in theory throw the rulebook in the air and improvement by another 300 pts and I wouldn't put anything past those pesky Russians.

Schippers has not had that kind of improvement. Her advantage is that she has natural speed, but there's no point being fast unless you can learn to convert this into other events. She needs a consistent LJ. She also needs to master this speed in the hurdles (though she was onto a fast time in London if not for hitting the 9th) Her SP is nothing to worry about as that will improve with age but she needs to work on her javelin. With the right coaching she can gain many points in that event. Of the young guns she is one of the next ones that can make a big leap in one season. I expect KJT to as well, despite her big near-500pt improvement from 2011 to 2012, as she was still developing then.

On Gambetta, she is a bit of an enigma to me. She has the making of a good career but her hurdles are just the worst! She hasnt even broken 14.50 and she needs another 1 second off her time, she's losing 150+pts in this event.

She was the fifth fastest qualifier with a time of 7.15.
Pretty impressive considering she is a heptathlete.

Even more impressive if you see her start was much slower than the others and she was closing in on the field the whole way. I wonder what her outdoors will be like, she could compete for the fastest European.

The report from Dutch athletics :
Dafne was walking with a time of 7.18 to the final of the 60 meters at the European Championships. In it, she finished fifth with a p.r. of 7.14. Jamile Samuel improved her p.r. to 7.26 and was eliminated for the final.Photo: Erik van Leeuwen
SA came elated by the Court. In the first round they ran Saturday 7.15 7.18, in the half. That final for the Bulgarian Tezdzhan Naimova victory on in 7.10. The silver was for Mariya Ryemyen (Oek) with bronze for Myriam Soumaré with also 7.10 and 7.11. The Frenchwoman had in the semifinals with 7.07 the best European time this season.
' For the semi-finals I got during the warm-up cramp in my left hamstring ', told SA afterwards. ' Therefore I ran not super. But the physical therapist has me before the final good. I didn't have a great start, but I could be fine by pulling ', said she is satisfied. ' The real sprinters are more reactive. I'm bigger and stronger as a heptathlete, but my speed was good. I was just on time well recovered from knee injury. 'Dafne now goes back focusing on the heptathlon – all she has in recent months especially trained as a heptathlete. The World Championships in Moscow are its primary objective. ' At the EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS for U23 I'll probably only do a few loose parts ', she said and called the 100 metres.

i hope that 7.14 can translate to 11.10 or better outdoors (her pb is 11.19) but it's not like she runs the 100m full time so it may be unlikely, even though it is very possible. 11.10 or better might put her in the top 8 Europeans.

A little better than last year in the same meeting,13.45s/0.2,6.25m LJ last year, but today dafne fouled twice and jumped 6.21m in 3rd round which is same result in first three round of last year,13.38s 100mH equals her 2nd best ever time,6.39m is the 4th best ever, hoping she can stay healthy and take part in more major game.
