very damn good. he also appears quite tall and relatively skinny, so a lot of room for improvement perhaps.

Not sure how good these are (or the weights used); they are from the USATF Youth Indoor Championships [see link on Today's Top Headlines]:

Kathleen Young, 13-14 girls shot put, 12.79m/41-11.50
Brandon Patterson, 13-14 boys shot put, 14.29m/46-10.75

Perhaps a fair bit lighter than those, for age 13-14?

That 2.20 looks out of place (and it still does not get to 81 feet).

Perhaps the reason the 2.20 looks out of place is because Jacko has never thrown the 12lb. Nowhere else in the world is the 12lb thrown except for the USA.

There are still some places where 12lb is thrown outwith the US, although it isn't a championship weight any more. I threw 12.44m with 12lb in 1980. I think that 12lb was a school weight in Scotland for about 100 years (but I'm guessing, really).

New Zealand was the same when I was at school in the 1960s. The shot at school was a 12lb-er.
But then New Zealand decided to join the rest of the world and go metric.

It seems rather strange to me that US High Schools still persist in using a 12lb shot when they have switched to metrics for the track. Mind you I would hate to see Michael Carter's record relegated to irrelevance by being made obsolete given it is far and away the greatest high school record on the books.

If the US went with a 5kg (11 lb) ball for the high school boys Carter's record would still stand... and I, for one, would very happy. Throw the 6kg ball at U20 meets.

Adams happy with consistency
Mar 24, 2013

Gill Has His Eyes on Senior Success
29 MAR 2013
Comments [Jacko Gill's] father, Walter. “Not one ounce of success or achievement has gone to [Jacko's] head; he does not expect special treatment from his community... When it comes to throwing and getting strong, [Jacko's] knowledge of how to succeed exceeds those who have coached him."

Gill gears up for big season
3/4/2013
"New Zealand's teenage shot put prodigy Jacko Gill is in Sweden undertaking intense training in preparation for the northern hemisphere summer and his bid to qualify for the world track and field championships in Moscow in August."

That one-footed standing vertical jump of 120cm at 1:34 is ridiculous, especially as he looks to be around 110kg now!

Not to quibble on nomenclature, but having a 120cm (48") vertical jump in America means that he's displaced his CoG that much, not that he jumped up onto something (with legs fully tucked beneath him) that high. It's still pretty cool.

I don't have it verified, but a coach in Kamloops told me he saw Dylan highjump a pretty serious height as a grade 9 guy. If I had proof, I'd post the height.

There's a quote in this article indicating he jumped at HS, and may have got up to 1.90m:

he was also a high jump star when he wasn’t playing high school football. He cleared 1.90 metres – about his height – back when he weighed only 245 pounds.

I saw he him high jump 1.76 (5-9 1/4) when he was 14. He even did some Pole vaulting. I just saw him as a huge kid, bigger than anybody else in his age group.

I love that he uses his legs for lift like Oldfield (not Hoffa or Cantwell, who have very little 'crouch').

I am no expert, but I reckon if right now you put Tom Walsh's technique on Jacko's body the WR would be toast!

I was gonna say if you put Jacko's speed/technique on Cantwell's body, you've got a WR!

Konrad Bukowiecki (97) did 22.33 with the 5k today in Warsaw. That puts him at no. 5 on the all-time youth list.
I'll be waiting to see whether he can confirm this sort of form soon, because frankly, the result looks so good as to raise doubts. His best until now was 20.54 indoors this year, and in today's competition, his second best put was 20.61...
