Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Time
You'll need a lawyer.
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All TimeMy list is on it's way. I made my decision mainly based on which athletes I like/d to watch compete; whether that be because they were/are fantastic or for pure entertainment/filth reasons

Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Timeso my message is stuck in my outbox..is that because Mump's inbox is full?
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Time
I might be wrong but I think all PMs remain in your outbox until they get read.
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Timedid you receive my PM with 20 faves cos "Outbox" or "Sent messages" do not show that you have received my choices. They say " no messages" Strange!!!

Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All TimeWhat decade were my picks from? Let's see...
0 from the 60s or earlier 5 from the 70s 7 from the 80s 8 from the 90s 11 from the 00s 4 from the 10s plenty of overlap between decades of course 14 men and 6 women I stuck to favorites that had a significant amount of world level success (I think everyone on the list has at least a world championship medal), and to favorites I have seen and cheered for while they were active.
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All TimeHow many entries so far?
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All TimeIt might be a monumental task, but once the deadline ( if there is one) is reached, hopfully our OP will list ALL nominees with their collective votes, in descending order.
I am pretty sure who will be last, or tied for last, as I voted for myself. Or maybe I will make someone else's list ?! Quite doubtful !
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Timethat's the plan
every one will be ranked firstly by number of votes and then by position of votes (total points) You will get 20 poiints for a first place on someone's list and 1 point for 20th BUT having 20 points from 1 person is worse than having 2 points from 2 people so the ranking will go in reverse order people with 1 vote from 1 point to 20 points (if there are any) people with 2 votes etc etc the winner will be the person with the most votes not necessarily the one with the most points, as it is possible for someone to have more points but less votes. If there are a number of athletes who tie on the same amount of votes in the final then it will be down to points ] i hope it all makes sense. As soon as i start posting results i'm sure it will all become clear. I will start off post a few results a day but as we get lower i will probably just do one a day so we can discuss each one. When the final result has been announced i will then post everone's individual list for discussion and if i ever get round to it i'll work out favourite by event, country etc i think it may keep us busy well into next year
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All TimeYou must have a lot of time on your hands.
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Time
Are you harvesting lists from other forums too?
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Time
I am sure that there is one person on my list who will get no more than my one vote (and it is not me)
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Time
No but i'm relying on all of you guys to create lots of debate and there are plenty of things to discuss on people's individual lists Also i have precisely no time on my hands but T&FN is ALWAYS a priority
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Timemump, my list is in order as shown, left to right , top to bottom.
Tried so hard to justify even one Brit of modern times The difficulty is the word "favourite". My choices mostly had to be for me not just great athletes, but people I could admire for other qualities; no doubt much fun next year giving reasons why we selected our choices. Just realised I left out my fav HJer, Dalton Grant, who entered big comps at 2.31m twice, as I recall. Great fun to talk with.!
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Time

Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All TimeWhen do you think i should knock this on the head ??
I'm thinking maybe Sunday as i may actually have some time next week to work on the results. I'm going to see how many entries i've had and get back to you but if there's anyone who still wants to apply please get them in asap thanks
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All TimeI thought we had decided no more than five per nation. Looking back I see I was wrong.
I would have had at least seven Americans.
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All TimeSo who I wonder will be the athlete with most points and thus the winner?
Will it be a current athlete or not. I suspect not. Only two of my choices did not win Gold Medals at the OG. It would be of interest as to how many responses from the Forum members have been received and are going into Mumps analysis starting soon.
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All TimeI think only Canadians picked a Canadian!
I look forward to seeing the results (and am working on my acceptance speech right now) but there really isn't much to debate. This is very subjective polling.
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All TimeWhat am I missing here? The results may be interesting but how can you debate or discuss someone's personal favorite anything?
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Time
You can revise your list - just resend it with the changes.
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All TimeOne assumes there are reasons why posters pick an athlete other than some fatuous stuff like what letter of the alphabet his /her name starts with
I hope that despite the questionable word "favourite", as opposed to "impressive" or "highest achieving" or even "greatest", we may get some great athletes at the top of the tree. On this Forum it is quite likely to be an American!!
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Time
Mump asked for a "favorite". That to me is highly personal, having nothing to do with "greatness", accomplishments, or universal appeal. I don't care, if quite a few of my selections receive only my only vote, even though I suspect that some of them will enjoy wide acceptance.
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Time
Exactly. That's what "favorite" means, after all. While it will probably be interesting to "parse" various selections, there is no rational reason to demand a "defense" of any choice from anyone. Explanations, sure; justifications, absolutely no.
