What a berk.
Compared to some of the most poisonous racism I've read in years that PSD's performance attracted on the Daily Telegraph's comment sections, I have no problem with anything here.
Jesus, that rag is getting worse. A concerted BNP blogbomb these days.
Track & Field News' predictions: 5 men’s medals... 5k Mo Farah 10k Mo Farah 400m h Dai Greene LJ Greg Rutherford TJ Phillips Idowu 1 women's medal... Hept Jessica Ennis
Tiffany Porter facing fitness race as Team GB's injury list mounts 15 Jul 2012 "With a target of at least eight medals in London, van Commenee will be relieved that other athletes such as 400m hurdler Perri Shakes-Drayton and javelin thrower Goldie Sayers have moved into serious podium contention with breakthrough performances at Crystal Palace, though the possibility that some of Britain’s biggest stars could be carrying injuries will be a major concern."
Looks like another medal contender just surfaced: Steven Lewis won at the Kuso Memorial in Poland with 5.82m. New UK record? Nick Buckfield is the only british 5.80 jumper i can think of.
Mo x2 Dai Greene Greg Rutherford Chris Tomlinson Phillips Idowu Steve Lewis Robbie Grabaz Lawrence Okoye m4x4 TBO a middle distance girl Tiffany Ofili (if fit) PSD Shara Proctor Yami Holly Bleasedale Goldie Sayers w4x4
There are no UK female middle distance runners within the same country code of an Olympic medal in 2012. I dont see one UK woman in the top 10 of any middle distance race in the Olympic Games this year.
One article recently linked to the front page on TF&N.com said since '68 (I think), home countries have enjoyed an average of a 54% increase in medals.
I look forward to GBR stepping up, with many athletes in all sports/events surpassing expectations.

i don't remember jenny simpson or hannah england being at the top of anyone's prediction list last year
i don't think it's going to take 3.56 to win in London, so anyone who is in the 4.02 range is in with a chance, especially those who have done it before

Yes but how many of Mumps "contenders" will he state would be on his final Medal Prediction list... far from over 20 on the above list, I assume .
I reckon a total of 5/6 individual medals and no relay medals this time.Hope to be a bit undercooked but that the way I see it. Trust none of our Flag Wavers are too upset.

I think most events are really difficult to predict this year. For example in the mens 5/10k Mo looks in great form but apart from Eugene he hasn't raced anyone of note, so i have no idea how he will do but with home advantage have to make him prohibitive favourite.
Perri is =2nd in the world has a lot more to give and once again has home advantage but 400h is all over the place this year so she could win she could come 8th !! but once again i am going to stay positive.
Mens LJ is a mess, Mitchel Watt is my pick for gold but after that it's a toss up :-S
off the top of my head, with a bit of luck and wishful thinking
Gold
Mo Dai Jess
Silver
Mo TBO PSD Phillips (depending on injury !)
Bronze
m4x4 Robbie Greg w4x4 (depending on TBO !) Holly
I'm convinced there will be at least one surprise as well i don't mean Shara, Yami etc who are on the edge of medals anyway, i mean someone out of no where !!
My own view is that Britain are likely to win around 10 medals overall, involving three golds, but there is a fair chance of even 12 if Phillips Idowu is fully fit (which I think he is) and sharp and relays don't get into any sort of mess.
PSD, Christine Ohuruogu, Goldie Sayers, Shara Proctor and Yamile Aldama have confirmed themselves as serious medal contenders over the last few weeks, Steve Lewis cleared a UK record of 5.82 yesterday to go fifth in the world in the PV and Chris Tomlinson is showing better form at the right time and Jack Green can turn heads in the 400mh - watch this space!
Hannah England showed well improved as runner-up in a more tactical 1500m in 4:10.43 behind Jemma Simpson in Solihull yesterday (around 2:16 both at 800m) so she is already in around 4:06-4:07 form and making ground fast. Lisa Dobriskey also ran 4:05.27 midweek, on top of recent 4:02.13, so she is not that far off top gear either.
Andy Baddeley is a slight late worry picking up a couple of niggles since overhauling Ross Murray at the UK Champs but hopefully he'll be fully fit by the heats of the 1500m - he's been in the shape of is life this season. Not necessarily a medal hope yet but both he and Murray can surprise quite a few in London.

I don't see her on your list of contenders... do you think she will medal?

Lewis had a good competition yesterday, but TBH, the clearance at 5.82 was a very lucky one.
It was? I watched it on TVP Sports and i don't really remember, but i thought it was a good clearance. Unfortunately they didn't show the NMH by Lavillenie and Mohr, would have been interesting in regards to London how they failed.

Have you looked at the current world rankings Athleticsimaging? The aggregate times of our 4 best is 3:00.34. The aggregate time for Bahamas is 3:00.83.
Allowing for rolling starts on 3 legs (worth approx 0.7 secs) we should be able to put out a team running low 2:58s NOW. Give them 6 more weeks to peak and add in Green and or Greene, then add the crowd factor and we should realistically hope to run in the 3:57s. It'll be close of course with Bahamas but we are, viewed objectively, joint second favourites.
You think Cuba will challenge that? Their national record is 2:59.13.
I think most people underestimated Bahamas but I'll give you Cuba and their DNF. Green(e)s? HA!
