Say you took 2-miler Aric Van Halen (9:34.44)
http://www.mtsacrelays.com/archives/200 ... 07F221.htm
and 800m runner Wynton Marsalis II (1:58.13)
http://www.pe.pomona.edu/womens/trackfi ... esults.htm
and lined them up for a one mile race.

Who would win? Would Aric start off at a bass-heavy, hard-driving pace that would cause problems with his lead (vocal) late in the race? Would Wynton the 2nd flutter ahead and behind his running rhythm seemingly with no race plan -- leaving him to improvise the last two laps?

What would their finishing mile times be? Would they, upon reflection, have rather met at 1600m instead? Most importantly, what would their post-race conversation include?

These questions and more....

That Jazz kid would not have a race plan, he would ad-lib. Van Halen would beat out a lead. But in the end Rock kicks Jazz's ass! Right Hammy?

Rock would be running the 400 (unless it was Brandon).

...also, it would totally depend on the rhythm of Stanford's drum team.

Surely Van Halen should be focusing on the "Jump"s... or is he indeed "Runnin' With the Devil"?

I note that Aric Van Halen (son of Alex) snuck as 16th qualifier for 3000m at NCAA indoors.

And he made NCAA steeple final last year (10th, and ran PR 8:42.55 in semi. He subsequently improved to 8:37.45).

Rockin'!

Wynton Marsalis II eventually got down to 1:52.92 during his time at Pomona-Pitzer
