Michael Crawford, The Games

Years ago, I read (in Sports Illustrated??) that Michael Crawford, the British actor (Phantom of the Opera fame) trained with Olympian Gordon Pirie when preparing for the role of Harry Hayes, milkman/marathon runner in the movie, "The Games," AND that after only three weeks of training he ran a 4:21 or 4:23 mile. Any one have information on this?
