I am looking for a track program for my 8 yr. old. He has shown great interest in running but I haven't been able to find anything to get him involved in in the area. I can only find info. about Basketball and Baseball programs. Thanks
At this time of year most youth programs are starting cross country. The USATF website at www.usatf.org should have info on clubs in your area with youth programs in cross country and/or track amd field.
No distance running. Sprints are fine if he wants to. Don't push him. Training shouldn't be rigourous. Learn to move the legs fast - sprint, no endurance training for the sake of endurance training. Watch for competition in individual sports placing too much stress on young children. Soccer is great for building endurance while playing a game.
