During the '08 Olympic Track & Field Trials, a large group of friends gathered to celebrate Cordner Nelson's 90th birthday. Nelson was born August 6, 1918. Some photos from that event--taken by Kim Spir, Linda Jarvis, Walt Murphy and a professional photographer on hand for the event--appear below.
An Olympic Trials 90th Birthday Party For Cordner
T&FN co-founder Cordner Nelson passed away at his home in Carmel, California, earlier this week--a very sad day for the T&FN family.
Cordner was 91 years old and had been in ill health for some months battling cancer.
In July of 2008, almost 200 of Cordner's friends gathered at the Olympic Trials in Eugene for a gala 90th birthday celebration (see pictures below). It was to be the last track meet for Cordner whose resume included attending 15 Olympic Games and witnessing countless world records.
